Where are we?

Have a good look around...

Highbrae Guesthouse is situated at 376 High Street, near the heart of the City of Dunedin. Within a few minutes one can walk down to the City centre. The city has a surprising number of interesting and historic buildings. The recently redeveloped Toitu Settlers Museum is a treasure not to be missed. Speight's Brewery, recently updated, also offers an interesting tour, as well as having one of the best restaurants, on location in the Speight's Ale House. From McLaggan Street move over one block to the left which is High Street. This street was famous in earlier time for it's many fashionable houses, built for the wealthy buisness class citizens. Dunedin today has a resident population of about 110,000. During the nineteenth century gold-rush it was New Zealand's largest city. Thanks to this early development and investment in education facilities, libraries, museums, galleries and of course the University of Otago, it is a city of culture and learning, annually invaded by around 20,000 students. A temperate climate (mild summers and cool winters) supports fine gardens. It also has a number of good surfing beaches and is rich in natural beauty ....more
