Rich in wildlife, it is home to rare yellow eyed penguins and the unique mainland colony of Royal Albatross which annually raise their young on the Taiaroa headland.
Within an easy walk from Highbrae are the Octagon, with it's statue of Robbie Burns, the Town Hall, the Art Gallery, St Pauls Cathedral, First Church, the Settlers Museum and the Classic heritage buildings of the Dunedin Railway Station and the Law Courts.
A little further along Dunedin's historic George Street is the Meridian shopping precinct, Knox Church, the Otago Museum and the University of Otago. This area is rich in cafe's and bars, catering to the ever growing student population
Also well worth a visit are the Dunedin Botanical Gardens and Baldwin Street, the World's steepest, which is a couple of kilometers beyond the gardens. These are but a few of the many attractions within the City boundries.
